Medicine

My husband is currently on Lopressor which is a beta blocker that is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and for chest pain, and he is also on Cardizem which is a calcium channel blocker that is also used for the treatment of high blood pressure and chest pain. I'm concerned about him being on both of these meds at the same time because they are drug interactions of each other, and because he has never had chest pain or high blood pressure - his bp is never any higher than 117/70 - without medication. We have spoken to his doctor about this and she says that it is fine to take the two together. Should we get a second opinion? Has anyone else been on both of these meds at the same time? If so, have you had any adverse effects while on both of them'm by no means a physician but can't see how it is safe to take two meds that are drug interactions of each other. Any help or advice will be greatly apperiacated. Thanks
