Advertisements for various products that can make our life easier are stuffed in our faces everyday. From deodorant, antacids, shampoos, down to files for your feet, there’s something for everything.

There’s a cheaper alternative for the above: baking soda. The various baking soda uses can replace all of the products mentioned above, or at least enhance them in some way. And another plus is that it has no harsh chemicals, just sodium bicarbonate, which is present in every living organism.

Baking Soda Uses

Below are seven ways that baking soda can make life easier, and help you to spend less money on some fixes.

1.) Soothe a Sunburn

“I love getting sunburned!”… said no one ever.

To ease the burn, take a lukewarm bath and add ½ cup of baking soda to the water. Mercola suggests you to allow your body to air dry, rather than using a towel to dry off. Not only does it make for better results, but it also hurts your skin less!

2.) Dislodge Splinters

Who knew that water and baking soda could have so many uses? According to Mercola, mixing the two together can draw out unwanted intruders on the skin’s surface, like splinters, and other painful objects that can get stuck in your skin.

3.) Relieve Bee Stings

And wasp stings as well!

This isn’t a proven theory, but here’s the reason for why people believe baking soda works well for this: Alkaline properties associated with baking soda get rid of the formic acid present in the wound and draws out foreign objects.

WebMD recommends you mix water and baking soda and apply it to the wound to see results, but of course only do it after you remove the stinger. But if the stinger is buried deep, the solution may still help to draw the stinger out.

4.) Remove Body Odor

Baking soda and water also helps with perspiration and not so pleasant smells. It does the same things as regular deodorant does, just with less chemicals. It also keeps your underarms dry. Home Remedies for Life has several remedies for stopping body odor with baking soda.

One effective method is simply mixing one tablespoon of baking soda with with one tablespoon of lemon juice then apply it under your arm. Leave it there for 2 minutes and wash it off. Do this one a day for a few weeks.

5.) Have Smoother Feet

Add three tablespoons of baking soda to a portion of water big enough for a great foot soak. Massage your feet while soaking them 15-20 minutes. Then use a scrub brush to exfoliate and remove the dry skin. Finally, add coconut oil or vaseline to your feet and put your socks on to seal in the moisture.

6.) Rid Tummy Troubles

Baking soda is a great antacid. To cure heartburn or your sour stomach, Mayo Clinic recommends using 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda with a glass of water. Be careful with this though: ask a doctor before ingesting large amounts of baking soda, especially if you do it on a regular basis.

7.) Give Your Shampoo a Boost

Combining baking soda and shampoo makes for a great cleaning product for your hair, with the baking soda doing more of the cleaning.

You can also dip your combs and brushes into a water and baking soda mixture to take excess grease away from your hair as you comb. Make sure to rinse your hair thoroughly afterwards.

So are any of these methods new to you? And if none of the methods above are new to you or if you’ve tried them before, are they useful or is it all just a bunch of hot air? Whether they are or not, I hope some of them work for you if you decide to try them out. Take care.
