Propranol is a beta blocker, but it also can be prescribed for people who have a physical anxiety reaction before public speaking. When speaking before a large audience, I sometimes take 20 mg of propranolol to control physical symptoms, primarily that pounding of the heart that makes it hard to focus. It's worked like a charm for me, and as a result, my public speaking anxieties are completely under control.
