I Have Rosacea
|
|
I went to my doctor today and, as usual the skin on my right cheek on my face was red. It has been looking like I have been slapped for a while now, but since it doesn't hurt or seem deadly, I didn't care much about it.
He says I have Rosacea. Great. Another thing to worry about.
So I figured I would share this information with people here who might also notice that their skin is looking red lately for no good reason. My face gets red when there is a temperature change like if it's cold out and I walk into a warm room.
Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness in the skin, primarily on the face. Rosacea cannot be cured, but some redness can be controlled with various treatments. Here are some factors that can increase redness caused by Rosacea, courtesy of the American Academy of Family Physicians:
Exposure to sunlight
Drinking very hot drinks or alcohol
Eating spicy foods
Exercising heavily
Stress
Exposure to very hot or very cold weather
They think that W. C. Field's nose was the victim of Rosacea because it got all red, pockmarked and bulbous.
I already don't drink, eat spicy foods, or happily expose myself to weather changes. But now I will have a great reason not to exercise heavily either!
Like I said, rah rah rah, something else to worry about.
Sigh.

I am sorry to hear about your prognosis. One of my family members has this, but unlike you, she has an affinity for spicy foods, mainly Mexican. Needless to say, she is always a little red. At least its nothing serious.

I have had it in the early stages and have been able to keep it in check through IPL -- intense pulsed light therapy. Most doctors don't know about this option, but I would encourage you to check it out.

How do you develop rosacea? Or is it something you have to be born with? I've never known too much about it...
