Recall, recall, recall...
|
|
It seems as if one thing right after another has health problems. Plastic with BPA and God-only-knows what else, toys with lead paint, tomatoes with salmonella. Its getting to a point where I am afraid to use anything! I am starting to think the old ways, growing everything yourself, making everything out of wood or metal (and make sure its the right kind of metal!!), etc is the way to have healthy food and products!! (And let's not even get started on buying a horse instead of a car... haha!)

If you remember that many of the recalled toys with lead paint were wooden toys you might reconsider. And many wooden toys are coated with varnish or other things you don't want you child ingesting. And of course tomatoes in your own garden could have salmonella and you wouldn't know until you ate it because they won't undergo testing.
Not that I'm saying you shouldn't grow your own food, it's just folly to think that will save you from some thing. Still, you will know exactly what practices are going into growing your food!

The point is the food in your garden would have to be contaminated first with salmonella and I don't see that happening unless you keep chickens! Really the risks are hugely reduced when you grow at home, from everything.
The recalls lately truly are frightening.

I agree the recalls are scary. It makes you wonder what is next. I actually bought some vegetable plants to grow at home after this latest recall with the tomatoes.

I agree with everyone else about the recalls - it really makes a person wonder what they can or cannot safely use.
I completely agree with KatyDid - I think it will be better to live like people did 100 yrs ago - If you can't grow it or make it your self than its not needed.
In my area we have a large community of amish and I truthfully think that with the rising gas prices, utility costs, etc they are going to be the ones to make it. Don't know but I guess I'll see

Remember, we are also more aware, and more alarmist about these things that we used to be. Think of it this way, if all those warnings about toys and safety were 100% true,.....no child would have lived through the 1970's!! For God's sake, we used lawn darts as a game back then,....these days safety experts would tell you that you're child is 200% guarenteed likely to die if you even kept that game in your home!

I think we should just make thing in the USA. It seems like the only safe way. Magnets in stomachs and lead being ingested. Goodness!!!

Yes recalls are scary and more and more people are starting to grow their own food or making their own products.

It`s getting so bad now that you just don`t know what to buy anymore. Very scary yes. But we have to eat. It`s like taking your chances when you buy something now. They should say use at your own risk on everything.
