Why Can't We Be Happy And Healthy
|
|
We as Americans are so fixated on how we look. We always try the new fad diets, pills and weight loss plans. What may work for you may not necessarily work for the next person. I am not thin but I am not obese. I am happy with my weight and consider my self to be healthy. I don't eat a lot of junk food,I do drink plenty of water, and exercise every other day. I have tried the pills (which were a waste of money), the fad diets that don't work. I was depressed all the time because I was so concentrated on my weight and the scale that I wasn't happy. My doctor recommended a dietician who told me what I needed to do and how to do it.

Because society tells us that we can always improve ourselves and that we must improve ourselves to be healthier, thinner, and to live longer.
What we don't realize that no matter how thin we are, how much we exercise, and how we do our best to live to be 100 we will all die in the long run. Many people are disappointed when they think the followed all the "rules" and end up getting sick just the same.
When Jackie Kennedy found out she had cancer she said, "What was I doing all those sit ups for?"
Be happy with yourselves people. Taking all that stress off yourselves trying to live to be 300 will do you lots of good. And just remember, no one lives forever.

Yes, society is molding the way people look, and it's not for health reasons.
I don't know why models on TV, for example, are tall and skinny. Tall and skinny - the feature in general - is ugly to me.
Too skinny can also be very unhealthy.
Can you believe back in the Renaissance era, girls were very attracted to fat guys? Fat was beauty back then - a sign of wealth.

Being too skinny is unnatural but we as a society tell ourselves that being fat is unnatural too. That you have to be skinny to be beautiful to get anywhere.

I've been on the road to a healthier, skinnier self but losing weight hasn't been the fix all I thought it would be. Losing 50 lbs hasn't made me younger or changed my features. I think it goes deeper and most of us think plastic surgery or being a size 2 will fix it all. But really, it's the inside that needs fixing. For me, it's fixing my self-image and confidence. Fixing all that damage is much harder than the weight thing but as long as I continue to try I know I'll be healthier - mentally - one day.

It started with the first Barbie. It is physically impossible for a woman to have the same proportions as one of those "ideal" dolls. Plus the advertising in magazines, television, etc is all geared towards telling women that if we don't look like them then something is wrong with us.

I know that I'm overweight but a good amount and I know that my back pain and some of my other aches and pains would be less if I lost that weight. I have lost some but lately have put some back on. I don't get on the scales at all unless I have a Dr appointment. I try to eat better but my problem isn't what I eat but how much I eat. I need to get back to doing my "push aways" instead of heaping on the food.
I'm happy with who I am and even though not really happy with how I look. My opinion is that if someone doesn't like me because of how I look then that is THEIR loss and not mine. Being happy with who you are is as important as your weight if not more so.

Even though we hear it often that if you lead a healthy life you won't have much need to be dieting, but the avergae person prefers to do it the other way around. Eat all the unhealthy stuff, don't exercise and then pop some pills. It hasn't worked in the past and it still won't work in the future.

Society molds the idea of the way people should look and it also molds our ideas about how we should enjoy eating and how we should not enjoy it, but should be healthy. I think it is not so difficult to find balance with "dieting" and enjoying food, but society at large doesn't play it out that way.
