The Female Heart Attack

We recently learned that my mother suffered an undiagnosed/misdiagnosed heart attack a couple months ago. I found this shocking as I thought heart attacks were the sort of thing that stop you in your tracks. Apparently women's heart attacks are very different from men's and are more subtle and less understood.

I thought I'd share this, so other women out there know what to watch for. I've heard 1 in 2 women will suffer a heart attack!

Heart Attack Warning Signs

* pressure, fullness, tightness or pain in your chest lasting five minutes or longer
* constant indigestion-like discomfort
* chest pain that moves to your shoulders, arms, neck, jaw or back
* lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting, sweating or a sick stomach
* unexplained shortness of breath
* unexplained anxiety, weakness or tiredness
* palpitations, a cold sweat or paleness

You are absolutely right!

It is startling to know that almost 1 in 2 women will eventually die of heart disease or either a stroke.

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in American women.

Also if these symptoms ever occur then tell someone you may be having a heart attack and call 911 or get to an emergency room ASAP.

When you get to ER insist they test you for a heart attack. Don not let yourself fall victim to a misdiagnosis.

The doctors can tell if you've had a heart attack in the past, right? Because my friend experienced many of the symptoms listed several months ago. I tried to get her to go to the hospital but she wouldn't. Her pulse was completely regular during the whole thing but I don't have the equipment at home to take her blood pressure.

50% chance of women having heart attack, that's a big percentage. I'd say lets try to eat less food with much cholesterol and sweets. Anyway we will start dieting when the illness is there already. So why don't we start eating proper diet when we are still healthy?

Because most people enjoy the unhealthy lifestyle too much to change it until they absolutely have to. It's only when they get a shock that they see the need.

That said, I have in the past 9 weeks lost 23lb, and have about another 27lb to go. But I am getting there-and without the shock to make me!

Two great sites to visit are the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and the American Heart Institute. There is a ton of news, information even recipes for healthy living. It is very important and I think most women even if they feel they are not at risk owe it to themselves to read up on the subject.

Its scary sometimes to see the statistics for this. I know more females with heart issues than men, and some of these are healthy in every other aspect, no smoking, no bad foods, etc.

I say more physical work for the ladies to prevent this disease. Heart attack is very stealthy and will strike at the very least expected. More exercise and healthy diet is the best action in preventing heart attack.

The heart attack warnings in the first post are already signs that you are almost to be strike.

there are some studies going on now testing to see if pregnancy and the hormones are linked to later in life heart problems. One of the hormones of pregnancy, relaxin, may weaken the heart later in life. Women's arteries are more susceptible to degeneration than mens because of physiology on physicality.
