When it's that time of the month what do you do when you have severe cramping. I have tried advil which my doctor recommends but the cramping always seems to come back within a few hours. Have any suggestions?

Thank goodness I don't have that problem any more but when I did I would take motrin and then go to bed. The nap made me feel better and the cramps stayed away for a while. I took a motrin every 4 - 6 hours during the first two days.

I always take ibuprofen but I find heat can really help relieve cramps. A hot water bottle or heating pad can be good. I use a rice sock so that it conforms to just where I need it most and I can use it laying down or sitting up.

Naproxen is a pharmaceutical that is best for relieving menstral cramps. It is available OTC in generic form or as Aleve. It lasts longer.
Some natural remedies are red raspberry and nettle tea (taken throughout the cycle), epsom salt baths, hot water bottle, using pads or a Diva cup (tampons can make cramps worse).

Is Naproxen or Aleve any better than Advil? Is Naproxen in prescription strength? Have you ever tried Advil and do you compare the two?

Advil does work. For me the cramping usually comes back within a few hrs and I have to take more advil.
