First menstruation can vary from as young as 9 and up. Average is around the 12-13 age, though. Most girls take about a year to develop a regular cycle.

It can take awhile. Back when I was that age the recommendation was to seek a medical opinion if after 1-2 yrs they weren't regular or at least showing a trend in that direction.

I know I started right at 14 but I don't remember when they finally regulated. My sister started when she was 13 but would have a period maybe 3 times a year. My mom took her to a doctor and he said not to worry about it. After her first child, she regulated.

It can take a while for a young girl to develop a regular cycle. For me it was about 8 months until I started having them regularly.

It is also natural for some girls to never develop a very regular period. I was always irregular and my Mom always worried about it and I went to many doctors. Being irregular was natural for me and it didn't mean that I was ill in any way.
Some girls never have a very regular cycle.

I have NEVER been regular ( every 28 days) .. I have always had issues with my menstral cycle. I started @ the age of 7. From 7 to about 18 I had a cycle monthly. Then @ 18ish I suddenly stopped having one. I had one in Feb. of that year, and didn't have another one until Sept. I was worried so I went to my family doctor and was referred to a GYN. I was put through a lot of tests and was told I would have to take a pill 1 time a day for 10 days and then I would start. So every 3 months I took my 10 pills and started. So I did that up until like two years ago and now I start on my own again. The doctors are not certain why my body did that other than the fact I started at such an early age. I continue to boggle the minds of doctors to this day!
