Anti-perspirants and Cancer

I was talking to some friends today about the research done about the link between the aluminum salts in antiperspirants (as opposed to deodorants which just mask the odor) and cancers. Does this effect your choice of sweat combating products?

I heard about this sometime ago and had started using FA which is the only deodorant I could find at that time. The problem I had is that it was not lasting, so I had to reapply a few times. So I ended up going back to antiperspirants.

Not really. There are lots of things I'm exposed to that put me at risk for cancer or other health issues. I tend to wear deodorant anyway, but news like this wouldn't stop me from buying antiperspirant if I needed/wanted it.

The reports on the relationship between cancer and deodorant and antiperspirants are still inconclusive. Some say there might be a link between frequent use and shaving and some reports say that there isn't.

More information about breast cancer risk can be found on the NCI's Cancer Risk: Understanding the Puzzle Web site. This is an interactive site, which includes information about how to reduce different cancer risks: http://understandingrisk.cancer.gov

I still use deodorants with antiperspirants, but I don't shave and then apply it right away. I wait until the next morning to apply the underarm chemicals. In a small way it's a bit safer.

I heard this a while back and switched to regular deodorant. It doesn't work as well so I end up taking a few more showers. I just don't want to risk it.

Oh MY! I didn't know this! I use anti-perspirants all the time (I'm in hot, humid Australia and we NEED these!!)

I will have to look at alternative options!

Their is a lot of discussion that the aluminum is what causes the cancer. Of course I still use regular aluminum deodorant. Their are alternatives such as Tom's of Main natural deodorant which doesn't have any of the aluminum in it.
