Using weights?
|
|
How many of you use free weights when you exercise? I guess my question is addressed mostly to ladies... I have heard some women say that they do not use weights because they do not want to become big, like bodybuilders. Well, I think you don't have to go to such extremes. I do use light weigths - a pair of 5 lb dumbbells. It helps to tone my arm & torso muscles and thus increase metabolism, yet I am not getting big, at all.

When I walk I put ankle weights on my ankles. I think it helps to strengthen my legs. I'm not worried about getting big muscles.
I think it is important to use weights- they are what tone you. Exercise will help you lose weight ~ but toning your body is down with weights.

I think you would need to do heavy weight lifting to get those big muscles. A couple of 5 lb dumbbells used only occasionally will not make you big.

To get the definition you do typically need to use heavier weights or increased weight increments in your workouts.
Smaller weights are great to just tone and not really build defined muscles.

I have always heard it is lighter weights and lots of reps to tone and heavier weights to increase mass. I think you are safe from turning into a muscle man if you aren't trying to bench 150. ;)

My husband told me if I wanted to bulk up or get muscled, then I needed to lift weights every other day- which I don't want to do, lol. Just doing them everyday should tone and not bulk.
