stomach stapling

I have had a few friends that have undergone surgery either stomach stapling or the new band surgery. One of my friends has been constantly sick, because she can not eat enough to stay healthy. She has lost almost 200 lbs but she looks worse, because she is ghost white and very sickly looking.

Several people in my ex-husband's family had the stomach stapling done. My sister-in-law wanted to lose weight so bad that she didn't even eat the minimum recommended by the doctor and ended up back in the hospital. The other sister-in-law had the procedure done several years later and she ate but filled her quota up with junk and ended up putting most of the weight back on. Both continue to have problems with certain foods to this day.

I've known a couple people who had the stomach stapling done and they haven't had any problems whatsoever. Besides a bunch of leftover floppy skin hanging around.

The people I know who had the operation have all had some problems -- continuing infections, loose skin that won't go away, and problems with diarrhea and bad results on their blood tests. They have had vitamin deficiencies and have to take more pills now then they did before the operations.
When I lost a lot of weight, I took less pills than ever as I lost and I felt better than I ever did. I also had some loose skin, but the worst of it has gotten better all on its own. The people who lost the weight fast with the stomach stapling had really bad loose skin and one person had to borrow money to have two operations to get the worst of the skin cut off. It's not all gone either!
It's healthier to do it by diet and exercise. For every pound you lose that way, you always get healthier.

How much did she weigh before she lost 200 lbs? Is she anorexic?
Egh, very bad!

I've never though anything that allows you to only eat a couple bites could be intelligent. If we were meant to eat the amount a squirrel does we would have been made talking squirrels not humans. I've had fiends who had it done and most regretted it for one reason or another.

I actually do not know anyone who has had the surgery-oddly, of my friends I don't think anyone is over 200lb. These operations seemed none sense to me too.
If you have a problem with food that should be dealt with-and if it's an addiction it should be treated like a heroin or anything other addiction should be treated.

I know two people who have had stomach stapling done and actually one of them was a success. She'd tried all the normal methods of losing weight, but she was overweight enough that she just couldn't do enough exercise without being in awful pain. She ate healthy and is still eating healthy, so she's dropped quite a bit of her weight and hasn't had any complications that I know of.
The other had horrible side effects, though, and greatly regrets it. Like others mention, she doesn't eat healthy either, so her body has never fully recovered. It's certainly not for everyone and it's far from a "quick fix."

I don't think that stomach stapling is the best option, now that I re-read this topic..
There's a lot of risks involve and it certainly doesn't make you healthy. It's a temporary solution that can cost you - money and health.
Lose weight by exercising, dieting (eating the right food and making the right choices), or a combination of both.
Most importantly: eat when you are hungry. Don't starve yourself, and at the same time, don't overeat. It takes practice and self-discipline.

I would never have a procedure like this just to lose weight (and I need to lose some). Changing what you eat, how much you eat and how active you are will help you lose weight. Notice I didn't say the "D" word. It is truly a life style change. I can see the need for such a procedure for people who need to lose the weight quickly for health reasons but eating habits still need to change.
Even just changing eating habits by eating better and less can make a big difference even if you aren't that active.
Surgery? No thanks.

A friend's of mine mom had her stomach stapled. She looks good but she has a lot of flabby skin that is just hanging there. There are other ways to loose weight than having your stomach stapled.

from what teh surgery centers are saying she could have a hidden secondary problem. Maybe developed diabetes along the way?
They also suggest a liquid diet that has extra vitamins.
Has she gotten a second opinion?
