After reading your post I realize that I could have written it myself. I also crave sweets and am in the same weight category. It isn't easy finding something to satisfy your craving that won't be high in calories and/or sugar.

I have eaten popcorn but that doesn't help the sweet cravings. I have gone to eating fruit like grapes, oranges, etc. that have a natural sweetness. This helps me out a lot. There are low cal snacks out there but they just didn't do it for me.

A dietitian on TV said that if you eat all the servings of fruit that you are supposed to, 4 to 6 servings a day, then you will begin to appreciate less sweet things and your cravings for sweets will go down. Just eat a piece of fruit when you get a craving for sweets.

I don't have a sweet tooth myself, but if you try this and it works be sure to tell us here!

I agree that eating fruit may help but be mindful of any dried or other packaged fruit as often times the sugar in these could be higher than if eaten fresh.

Try drinking lots of water daily. Also drink 1/4 a cup of peanuts/nuts before each and every meal. It will make you eat less and feel much more full.

Replace junk food snacks with fruits.

I heard one dietician say that in the beginning stages of changing your diet, it is not about changing what you are eating, but eating the correct portions. Try putting smaller normal portions of things you like to snack on in zip lock bags and snacking throughout the day. Once you have eaten all your proportioned snacks, try not to eat any more. After a few weeks when you are used to the portions, then try weaning yourself away from the sweets and substitute it for a healthier alternative.

I also have a sweet tooth. Lately I've substituted fruit flavoured Cheerios for more decadent treats.

I also snack on celery, sometimes with cream cheese or peanut butter on it.

I think these things are a step in the right direction.

If all of the above fails you can try to avoid these snacks all together. Since I now, I fall prey to them regularly, I just don't buy them. If I feel I must have some, I buy a single serving if it's possible so that I have nothing else left after consuming that portion.

Snacking is ok if you eat the right stuff like fruits and veggies. I do have a sweet tooth for ice cream but I always try to limit my portions on it.

I have tried doing without and and found myself then consuming too much of something when I finally give in. Limiting portions is VERY important and I think will help especially if you just use it as a treat instead of a regular snack.

I agree with the general thread in these posts that by limiting the portions in our main meals, we can snack on tidbits like granola bars and fruits in between. That should help to maintain our energy levels at a more even keel too.

I'm also overweight and I like to snack, especially on sweet or salty things. I guess that's why I'm overweight. I used to smoke and quit 8 years ago which is when my snacking started getting out of hand and I gained weight. Drinking water and chewing sugarless gum help me a little but the best thing I do is exercise to try to combat the extra calories.
