Obesity in America

What do you think are the primary contributers to the obesity epidemic in our country? What can we do to keep this trend going?

I imagine you mean to stop the epidemic but in answer I imagine there are many things most of which will never happen. Like putting a nutritional standard on all food products etc.

It is the lifestyle that promotes obesity. Sitting all day long at work and at home make you obese. Most people have sedentary jobs in their work and when they are at home, they usually lie on the couch to watch TV. Furthermore, they hardly do any exercise.

Lifestyle is part of the problem and the other part is many people do not like to change so they just stay on the same path.

Healthier eating habits and more exercise are key elements in fighting the obesity epidemic in America. We have to get off our tushes and start moving. We also need to stay away from the fast food places. I think California had the right idea in outlawing the opening of new fast food restuarants. Although, I believe it was only one city or county that passed this law.

I just saw a TV program that talks about the fact many peoples are gaining weight very quickly.

It seems that, as soon as people can get their hands on cheap and plentiful foods, that the people who are finally getting a "better quality of life" are gaining weight and getting many ailments that go with obesity.

It touched on the fact that Eskimos, American Indians, and Mexicans are fast becoming unhealthy as they get to buy mass produced foods and they no longer have to hunt and fight the earth to farm and feed their families. As the standard of living has risen, as people no longer have to struggle to feed their families, as soon as famine is wiped out by the ability to have foods available to all for a cheap price, that humans tend to gain weight at an alarming rate.

Until we can find a way to fight the human history of feast and famine, of overriding the way that nature has helped humans survive the famines that used to be a real and ever present danger to us, then gaining weight is going to be the norm for everyone.

Probably BANNING McDonalds and other fast food restaurants and probably free cooking classes since many people like to buy frozen food which has every main ingredient to OBESITY.
Oh, and giving out free TREADMILLS.
LOL
