Let Your Goal Be To Get Healthy

For some crazy reason, people in this society who are dieting only think of that final goal as being healthy. They don't care how they get there because to them the lowest number on the scale or the smallest size is the only thing they think about. Thin means health to them. And that is just not true.

When I was losing weight, I found a lot of joy in the trip TO my goal. With every ten pounds that came off, I'd discover something great to celebrate that proved I was getting healthier -- not just thinner. While I was still a long way from my goal, I loved to see each time I no longer needed a medication I had been taking. That was a real thrill for me. Each lower size helped me see that my body was changing, little by little and each change was a real thrill because I felt better. I didn't care how long it took, I was having a great time getting to my goal because feeling better and getting healthy was my reward, not a low number on a scale

But when I see people starve themselves to get to the lowest number on the scale as fast as possible and they don't care about anything else, I know that they are missing the great feeling of getting healthy.

I absolutely agree with you. I stopped worrying about my weight a few years back and started tracking my size, instead. I only weigh myself once a week just to check. I can also see that my muscles are more firm and toned so even when I don't actually lose any weight, I still look and feel better than before. That's the whole point to me.

I think the media and the culture has really done a bad job as it relates to promoting diets and healthy, there is much info out there about being healthy but most times it is tied to being slim.

Diet companies and fitness centers are as culpable as anyone on the issue of health. I saw a newspaper article a long time ago done by a reporter who was already at her ideal weight. She visited all the local fitness centers to discuss her losing weight and out of all of them only one of them told her that she did not need to lose weight and we reluctant to recommend any weight loss program for her. That doesn't speak well of the industry.

The sad thing about the weight loss industry is that people have forgotten to enjoy what they're doing.

Walking is so relaxing. Your mind gets to unwind and get rid of stress. Your body gets a nice release of endorphins and you get to lose weight at the same time.

Throw away the scales and think instead about healthy eating and healthy habits :)

We as American are obsessed with weight loss. There is always a new pill that comes out telling us that we can lose weight fast. I was obsessed with counting calories and measuring my food that I was driving myself crazy. I have learned that all I need to do is eat right and exercise. I walk and it is so relaxing.

actually it bena back in teh 1920s when the flapper look of flat chest and ultra thin came into being. Up until then lok atteh gibson girl and the older eras of wide hips and boobs that stuck out.
It wanst until then that teh consumptive look took hold and became fashionable. ever since then, teh diet industry has grown.
Whats sad is that 60 percent of teh population is still full sized.

I gave up on teh scale. I prefer pants.. if they are tight i know to eat different, if they are loose then I yahoo!
I prefer health over anything else. which is why i take plenty of vitamins and while i am large size 14/16/18 depending on the manufacturer. i prefer health over numbers.

Being healthy is definitely something we should all strive for. All the exercising that I do is to stay healthy so when my kids have kids, I'm around for my grandkids. I haven't changed the types of foods that I eat, however, I try to tune in to when I am full instead of just eating because food tastes good. My main diet is a lot of veggies and fruits with some meat thrown in here and there. Everyone know and then, I will indulge in a hamburger but that's about it.
