Lap-Band System

As far as I know this is something new (within the last year, anyway) on the market. It seems to be an alternative to gastric bypass surgery but is still a type of surgery.
It's for people that are over 100 lbs. overweight.
Does anyone know anything more about this?

It is a minimally invasive procedure where doctors use the Lapriscopic surgery procedure to place a silicone gastric band placed around the top of the upper part of your stomach. This reduces the amount of food your stomach holds helping you control your food intake.
Users see an immediate dramatic loss in weight. However because you are losing weight, this does not mean you are living healthy, just eating less. A healthy diet is a crucial part of any weightloss.

I have heard about this Lapriscopic procedure and would vote for it over Gastric Bypass. I heard this procedure is reversible and adjustable if needed in the future. Since, it is less invasive, you have less healing and recovery time.
I have about 6 friends that have had Gastric Bypass, and about 3 of them now have incurred new medical problems due to the bypass.

I don't think that this band is much more healthy than the old system. You can still have your stomach rupture, and you can still have all the uncomfortable side effects that come from forcing your stomach to only hold a few ounces at a time.
And you still have to remember that you can gain the weight back anyway, it's not a guaranteed permanent quick fix.
It's a better idea to finally learn how to eat rather than how to make yourself starve. Is it easy -- no. But you have a better chance of getting healthy even during the time you spend dieting if you try and eat well.
