Iceburg or Other Type of Lettuce

Is eating iceburg lettuce a waste of energy as compared to a romaine or other type of lettuce? I was talking to a friend while planning my grocery list and she was making comments about the bagged lettuce on sale since most of it is iceburg or iceburg mixes. I don't buy romaine as I find it bitter and it makes me not want to eat salads.

Iceberg doesn't have as many nutrients as some of the darker, leafy greens but it is still good for you as far as fiber goes. There are many other greens you could try besides just romaine though.

If you mix up your greens it won't taste as bitter and I find if I use a dressing with a bit of a "tang" to it then it really compliments the more bitter types of lettuce. There are other types of lettuce as well that you can try along with baby spinach.

I am not positive, but I have always heard that regular lettuce has no calories (or very little) and helps to fill you up if you are dieting. It is also pretty cheap and makes a good base for other types of veggies. I wouldn't want to eat just a lettuce salad though. I love the baby spinach myself! I hate cooked spinach and was very surprised to find that fresh spinach tastes excellent! And its is one of the healthiest foods you can choose!

I do not know about that. I love iceberg lettuce and I try to eat as much as possible. I know it is getting more expensive though.

I think Iceberg Lettuce is worthless. I prefer Romaine because I feel it has more vitamin content.

Iceberg lettuce is the cheapest right now and the only kind I would even think about eating with french dressing. My dad eats romaine lettuce with hot bacon grease over it, yuck!
