Do You Stick To Your Diet Over Holidays?
|
|
Do you eat the traditional foods no matter the calories when those special holidays come up? Or do you eat replacement dishes that aren't so high in calories, or do you just stick to your diet?
With Passover coming up, I'm going to do what has helped me in the past. For the Seders, the special meals where we go over the story of the escape from slavery in Egypt. I eat all the traditional foods, but much smaller portions of them. Just a taste. For the rest of the week I eat Kosher for Passover foods, but just vegetables and some small bits of meat.
For holiday meals like Thanksgiving, where certain foods are never seen but on that night, I again will enjoy the food, but have less and add lots of veggies and white meat Turkey for the main part of the meal. I won't regret it the next day if I do that since I neither eat too much or denied myself a special time. And if I did over do it, I stick to my diet and drink lots of water the next day.
For those who know what it is, I do have one portion of Matzo Brie per each Passover. It's too delicious to refuse to have, LOL!
Just make sure that there are no leftovers, left over in your house. Give it away!

I don't stick to my diet over the holidays. I just try to eat things in moderation and that seems to work pretty well for me.

Here's what I do. I try to lose 5 lbs. the couple of months before Thanksgiving and Christmas and then inevitably I gain it back by the end of the holiday season.

I normally use a smaller plate at the holidays (best use of a bread plate yet). A bite of the traditional things keeps me from feeling left out and having a big plate left for salad is better for me.

I am on a general diet so I don't really need to stick to anything in particular. As a general rule, I avoid oily and fatty foods. I avoid sweets except for chocolat and cheese cake which I have occasionally.

I have a difficulty with my diet on weekends since I'm at home more, much less on holidays. I am conscious of the excesses so I try to keep them down to aminimum.

Holidays don't work for dieting. I do my best on the days that I can to eat right. Inevitably, on the holiday days and the parties before them, cause me to eat more than I should. I work around it, but always put on a few pounds.

I try to nibble on the goodies and not go back for seconds when I can. Sometimes I cant help it though, temptation is everywhere (Cookies, cakes, etc.).

Until I made a definite plan to combat gaining the holiday weight, I always gained something. Or I'd be strict and not have any special foods and then feel really angry that I missed it, and I'd eat something really terrible the next day to stop feeling so resentful.
But with my plan to have a healthy portion of the really great dishes and just have veggies at other times, I usually don't gain any (or much) weight and don't feel angry.
I also have the added plus that, with Passover, I don't get so terribly constipated from eating Matzo every day instead of bread. Cutting all bread out of the diet saves me that feeling and I don't get all bloated either.
That's more than enough of a reason to keep to my plan. I still get some treats and my tummy doesn't get to play tricks on me!

Because I try to eat rather healthy anyway, I'm never really "on a diet." Over the holidays, I do let myself indulge in many of the special foods without feeling guilty, but I try not to overdo it because I end up feeling half-sick or overly tired.

The holidays are the worst time for dieting for me. I do indulge myself but during that time of the year, the rest of the time I cautious about what I eat.
