Subject: Snot

I know when we are kids we are told that mucus is the stuff that gets caught to keep from getting in our bodies. At least that is what one person told me, so here is my question. If I blow even a little bit, my nose must be over sensitive, it bleeds. How else can you get the junk out?

Usually this just means that the capillaries in your nasal cavities are close to the surface. You do still have to blow your nose sometimes so I'm not sure how you would get around that, to be honest.

You undoubtedly have capillaries that are very close to the surface. If this problem is something that is new though I would see a doctor about it. One thing you can do to soften the "snot" so it is easier to blow out is to irrigate your nostrils with a nasal moisturizer or just plain salted water.

Yes, saline is just wonderful for making it easier on the nose. My kids could never blow their noses till they were older without.

I'd see a doc though honestly because you might need to have it treated.

Yeah you can't just keep hold of all the snot, that's nasty! Sometimes I get bleeds because the snot was so dried in place that when it comes away it pulls skin with it. In those cases saline would stop that. It comes in little squirty spray bottles.

Because of constant battles with sinusitis, I have a lot of problems with my nasal passages, especially when it comes to nosebleeds. I use vapor rub at night to help keep the passages open, only on the chest though, never in the nose.

My wife actually dresses the entrance to her nostrils with the vapor rub. I have done the same but my blocked nose has to be pretty severe before I'll consider it.

That stuff burns so badly when it gets too close to my nose, I don't know how you can do it!

There is a new product being advertised on TV that you use in the nose-Sinupret or something-would that help?

Oh, and that stuff is supposed to be good for kids, so I would think that it would have to be really gentle. I wouldn't think many kids would let you go poking about their healthy nose if it was going to hurt them.

I kind of think my ex cursed me with sinusitis, before I dated him I never had issues like this but yes its something new so I will be talking to the doc about it. And yes I know I can not keep the snot either, its not like I want the collection. Its just gotten so bad, today alone the right side I can breathe like 60% from, and the left maybe 20%...........it blows and not the good way.

What do you think?
