Subject: Premade foods

I know they have like those lunchables and they even have some for adults that are like 6" sandwiches, but are these types of premade foods just as healthy if you were making them yourself?

Honestly they could be healthier if you use a low-fat cold cuts, low-fat cheese and choosing a healtier, whole wheat bread. You can also add fruit or veggie sticks, instead of cookies and candy bars.

I have seen only a couple that do the low fats but those I have seen are the meats and cheeses. It seems they still put a really unhealthy snack in them though.

I can almost guarantee that you could make a healthy lunch yourself. Not only that but it would probably be cheaper and taste better too.

Yeah, they would be full of preservatives and so on too-needed to maintain a long enough shelf life to ship them out. Not a good or healthy thing at all.

I seriously doubt any premade food from the store is healthier than what you can make yourself. Granted sometimes prepackaged is the only thing you might have time for in some situations.

There are definitely better choices to be made when you can't get home to make your own. I would think though that hitting up a proper sub shop would be better-there are many good choices to be had there.

So that is a good note in itself there and it sparked a conversation with a mate of mine. We were debating besides price, which is healthier to eat vs. the price paid - deli foods or premade lunches? Same thing pretty much right? Even though the deli is more than 2x the price??

I did manage to try one the other day that was pretty tasty but it was a little on the salty side. I will have to try and remember the name, see if we can get a good/bad list going.

I am still stuck on this and it makes me wonder why so many places are selling these types of quick foods that are so damn salty. Is there some type of craziness going on or something?

What do you think?
