Subject: "Healthy" snacks

I noticed that Sunkist is making something similar to the Fruit Gushers that are in stores and kids love. Are these really all that healthy, I'm sure they are compared to many candy types but how much healthier?

From what I can see, these aren't at all healthy. They have low fat but they are candies with sugar sweetened fruit "goo" in the middle for an extra sweet send off just as you're finishing the candy.

Just because something says it is made from fruit, it isn't necessarily good for you. If you want anything healthy for your kids, the thing to remember is to "keep the snack close to the farm." The less that is done to the food, the least that the company selling it does to it, the more healthy it is.

If your kids want fruit snacks, get them real, plain fruit, or those fruit leathers whose ingredients start with fruit and don't have any sugars for a few ingredients.

Forget these candies, they are no t at all a healthy snack.

I doubt the would constitute as a healthy snack, but perhaps a healthier alternative to regular fruit snacks. If you are seeking healthy options though, look elsewhere than fruit snacks!

I am not familiar with the Sunkist product, but I do remember Fruit Gushers and all they were was little nuggets of sugar with some sugar water inside - not exactly a healthy snack... I would stick to fresh fruits and veggies as much as possible for snacks for your kids - teaching them these things now about eating right are sure to follow them through the rest of their lives.

I don't know about this particular item, but check out the label for ingredients and such, and that should answer your question.

I do not think they are real healthy. I would stick with real fruit as snacks before a box kind.

I don`t buy those things. They are full of sugar. I buy frozen fruit because right now fresh fruit is so expensive. I do buy the bananas though. Those go quick in my house.

This would be a good category. Perhaps a broader topic would be better like "Food & Nutrition". I think that can definitely be considered a forum all by itself.

What do you think?
