Subject: | Chicken Pox | |
Does anyone know more about chicken pox? I have never gotten it before and I was told that it is worse as an adult than a child. |

It is very true. One of my friends who never contracted chickenpox as a child recently caught it. It is definitely more severe, and led to a case of the shingles (common in adults). I would recommend that you get the vaccine. You don't want to chance going through what she did. |

I actually went through a case of the chicken pox when I was in my 30's...and it was hell. I had boils mostly on my face, back, and chest coupled with fever and a miserable stomach. It’s not something I ever want to go through again. |

It as absolutely horrible as an adult. Are you positive you didn't get it as a kid? Some people have and just don't remember or had a really mild case. I know they offer a vaccination for kids now that is supposed to help prevent it, but I don't know if that's available for adults, too. |

It is worse as an adult, and can be very, very serious in adult males and cause sterility. You definitely want to get the vaccine. I recall going to a sleepover with most of my elementary school so that we could all get it when we were in kindergarten back in the 80's. |

I suggest having a blood titer done to see if you have immunity: some people do, who have never contracted the virus visibly. If you don't have immunity, you may consider the vaccine. |

I would be very careful if you haven't had a shot because chickenpox is very contagious disease that is caused by the varicella virus and it is spread through the air by infected people when they sneeze or cough. You can also contract the disease by just touching the chickenpox blisters and not washing your hands afterwards...eeeewww! |

I got the chicken pox when I was 7 I think, it wasn't THAT bad from what I remember, but it did itch pretty bad sometimes, made it kind of hard to go to sleep some nights, and left me a few scars. It does leave many people scars. A lot of people I know have scars from the chicken pox. And yes, it is true that the chicken pox gets worse the older you become. I don't know why, but it is true. |
