Wii as therapy

It's been interesting to hear so much about the Wii in the news lately. And not in the way one would think!
The Wii is being used in nursing homes and elderly therapy facilities as a way to help get and keep the elderly mobile.

The Wii game system? That's very odd.

Couldn't they use any game system? Does it really matter that it's the Wii?

Or because it has that little hand-held thing to make you get up and move?

That's cool though.

That's wonderful news, but soon you may here of another asscociated illness, carpal tunnel disease. So one problem solved, but another may have been created. I really hope that's not the case though.

I'm not up on the gaming systems but the reason it's the Wii is because it is a small handheld thing, right? As opposed to something you hold with both hands and must control with both hands.
For example, some of the games you can actually feel like you are physically playing tennis or boxing.

I should have posted a couple of link to some articles for you guys to read. Check out these links with a couple of short articles that talk about how the Wii is helping people.

Great idea. The reason they are using the Wii is because the games are very interactive and actually mimic the motions of the activity in real life. For instance, if you are playing baseball, you hold the remote like a bat and physically swing it to make your character swing, as opposed to just pushing a button.

That's an awesome idea! It reminds me of when the Dance, Dance Revolution games really hit big and they started putting the dance pads in children's physical education classes at school. It was fun exercise. Now it's at the opposite end for senior citizens.
