Tubal Ligation/Menopause
|
|
I had my tubes tied at the age of 26 after the birth of my third child and with no regrets. I was also informed that there was a possibility that I would start menopause at an earlier age, which I didn't really care about, as it was no big deal. I did indeed start menopause at about the age of 42. Now 10 years later, I am still having occasional night sweats. About 5 years ago during the worst of it, I went through a clinical trial, but was only on it for six months. It seemed to work, but they would not disclose the name of the drug. Although alot of the symptoms have faded I was just wondering if anyone knew or experienced many more years of menopause then what I have been going on. I do not have medical insurance, and am not one to go to the doctors much (haven't had to-thank God), does anyone have any decent remedies that a person could try? Any help would be appreciated as I get worn out throwing covers off and then putting them back on a zillion times a night.

I've read that, when you count peri-menapause and menopause women can keep going through the symptoms of menopause for years. As long as you still make some estrogen, you'll still get all the symptoms of menopause. It's not unusual.
If the night sweats are making sleep impossible for you, have you tried Remifemin? It's over the counter and it's advertised to help night sweats. I've tried it but for my symptoms for during the day and it worked well for me.

A lot of people successfully use soy supplements, which act like an oestrogen supplement. This of course brings your levels up to normal rather than getting your body used to the lower levels, so I am not sure that you wouldn't experience the same withdrawal symptoms when you came off the soy.

The earlier you start menopause, the longer it tends to last, unfortunately. My friend started menopause at 38 and now at 51 she still gets occasional hot flashes. The rest of the menopausal symptoms have faded away, though. She took Prempro for a few years but hasn't been on it for about 5 years.
