HPV exposure and risks

My daughter contracted HPV from her an ex-boyfriend. He had cheated on her with a girl who had HPV. My daughter had to have paps done every 6 months for a couple years but has been told that the HPV is gone. Does this still increase her risks of developing cervical cancer or is that only when you have the virus and aren't aware of it?

I think that is a very good question to ask your daughter's gyn. I would love to know the answer.

Most women will have HPV exposure at some point in their life, and few will ever know it. The vast majority of women will clear it from their body like your daughter has, and it is only those who suffer chronic infection that they cannot shift who are at risk for HPV triggered cervical cancer.

What is more, tests have found in women who were not sexually active at the time, that HPV can 'mutate' between the various strains. I wouldn't worry-her body did what it was supposed to and now she is naturally immune to that strain.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who gets HPV is at the risk of getting cervical cancer, but don't count on my answer, I might be wrong. Ask your daughter's gyno.

I believe she is still at risks. She should consitter the shot to protect herself from the other strings of the virus.
