Delivering triplets early?
|
|
My sister is having triplets, after conceiving via in vitro insemination. She told my mom that they would schedule her c section at 35 weeks. Why do they do it early? It seems to me that it would be better for them to bake as long as possible.

With triplets they do have to get them out earlier or there will be complications, no woman can keep supplying all the stuff the babies need as it will be cramped in there.

Normally, with twins or more multiples, labor comes early anyway - often at 6 months. With triplets a natural childbirth can be dangerous to both the mother and the babies so in almost all cases a c-section is scheduled. If they wait longer, it is highly likely that the babies will entangle or injure each other as the uterus will be pretty much full up by that point. The babies most likely wouldn't gain any more weight by staying in longer as the mother's body would not be able to sustain it.

After all the trouble she went through to have the kids, I'd guess she is following what her doctor told her is the best thing to do -- and that is as it should be.
It's not a normal pregnancy. The babies are in close quarters in there and your sister's body is really taking a beating as it does all it needs to support the little lives inside her.
Her doctor probably thinks that is safer outside for the kids and for your sister to get them out while he can still be sure they are not in any danger.
All I can say is that you will have to be prepared to help your sister as much as possible when the babies come. She's going to be overwhelmed with fatigue.
Get your rest now and be prepares to help a lot.
It all sounds very exciting for your family Congratulations to all of you!

It sounds like the doctor wants to control the stress on the mother's body and control the birthing environment.
Did your sister ask for a tummy tuck since they are going to be working in that area anyway? I would!

First of all congratualations to your sister.
It sounds as though her medical team will want to be in control of the birth, rather than letting your sister carry to full term and go into sponteneous labour. Theirf would be a possibility of complications with a multipul birth. Dont worry I am sure everything will be fine.

Can you imagine 3 babaies fighting for the same exit? Ouch... I nkow that with early deliveries you risk things such as lung and breathing issues and other serious complications.
However, with it being done under a preplanned and controlled system those complications are lessened. Where as delivery of a full term birth with triplets you suffer serious life threatening complications to the mother as well as the babies.
So I imagine it has a lot to do with weighing the seriousness of potential complications for either scenario.
