Subject: | When Faith Goes Too Far | |
I've recently had the experience of a friend leaving an extremely controlling religious organisation. The organisation was even dangerous to health because of things it dictated. When does faith reach the point that you lose a piece of yourself? |

I think the better question to ask is when it does go too far why are more people not leaving the unhealthy environment? And if you do start to lose pieces of yourself how do you plan to get them back or at that point do you just not care anymore? |

A big problem as I see it is when those health decisions involve children. They have the right to be protected from these crack pots, because they are not of an age that they can speak up for themselves. |

I think its time to draw the line when you are uncomfortable with what you are hearing and what you are seeing. It does not even need to reach the point of physical trauma, if there is even emotional trauma going on you know its time to get out. |

I think when it it dangerous to anything, your life, family, job, home and so on. Anything that tells you that you are giving up a piece of what we all have (freewill in some cases) I think is bad for you/us. |

Whenever a religion dictates that your family is not good enough for you and you should take the church as your new family then that is going to far, that just breaks down the family relationship. |

Faith in the wrong thing is never good for us. Unfortunately, there are many manipulators out there who will try to advantage. The manipulate the words of the Bible to mean things they don't mean such as Jesus is the Great Physician, we don't need any other. And yet Luke was a physician and a follower of Jesus yet he didn't give up medicine to follow Christ. |

Anything can be unhealthy and this is really no different. Right now I see people drawn into these types of thing far too often. |
