Subject: | What do you think of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount? | |
Hello Everyone, I have been slowly reading the book of Matthew and I thought what better place to share and talk about my reading than the eDrugSearch Hot Topics area! I want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their own views so please speak up and let me get to know your mind, heart and opinions. BTW - If you do you will earn points that can be redeemed as instant cash discounts on all the pharmacies listed within our directory. I read in the bible that good conversations act as training for eternity ;) Anyhow here are the verses I wanted to share with you and talk about: Matthew 5 The Beatitudes 1Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them saying: 3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount" starts out with contradicting words (Matthew 3-5) but God's way of living will usually contradict the world's. If we want to truly live for God we must be willing to say and do things that may go against worldly or popular views. Example: We must be willing to give when others take, love when others hate and help when others abuse. By giving up our own rights in order to serve others will allow us to receive everything that God has instore for us. Wow, that's some pretty powerful stuff and that is only 10 verses of the Bible! Now I know why they call the Bible the "Living Word" because it affects everyone differently. What do you think? |

I think it's silly & naive to believe that you or anyone can know as a fact what was said & done over 2,000 years ago. As for the bible... if you do your research (instead of blindly believing & accepting folk lore)you'll find that the these "facts" were written DECADES after the event. To buy into the fairy tales of the bible.. virgins becoming pregnant, people walking on water, coming back to life etc. etc. ... Please!! Why is it there haven't been ANY documented "miracles" throughout modern time? If you need to believe in something to get through life.. believe in yourself, that's something real!! |

Hello Zbillz1, First of all I appreciate your honest response. However, I can raise the same argument - How can you know for a fact that these miracles and events did NOT happen or how can you be 100% sure God doesn't exist? Have you ever looked at the beauty that surrounds yourself and taken a deep breath and thought to yourself there has to be something bigger than yourself out there? The Bible has been a "bestseller" for thousands of years and that my friend is a fact. So I challenge you to get a "life application" Bible and just read the short book of Romans and see what affect it will have on you and your life. They don't call the Bible the "living word" for nothing. God is obviously working on you so pursue the answer to your question whole-heartedly - and I encourage you to not give up. Here is a great article that shows 6 reasons why God exists: http://www.everystudent.com/features/isthere.html Hope this helps and God bless, Cary |
