Sea Creatures and You

Every summer it seems like I see oodles of news stories about kids getting stung by jellyfish, rays, horseshoe crabs, etc. Do people really just jump about the ocean and not think about what they are doing?

Unfortunately the answer is yes. People just don't realize all the hazards the ocean has even in the shallow waters and sand of the beach. People just let their kids go and don't watch them close enough.

Yea, some just turn their kids loose and let them run wild. However, even under close supervision, accidents can happen. There is a lot of danger floating around the ocean, and mishaps can occur under the closest supervision.

I can agree that mishaps will happen but it has to make you wonder what % of those accidents could have been prevented too. I think its good that I dont like the ocean as I would have the bad luck being careful and still get hurt.

It is true that kids do run wild at the beach, but I am not so sure that most of these accidents are caused by a lack of close supervision. These sea creatures are not the easiest to see and avoid at times.

I think really that the only way to completely avoid this risk is to stay home, or only swim in an enclosed pool. This for many people takes away a good portion of the fun.

I have seen too many times where parents are far up on the beach while their children are running around in the water. I don't understand it. Whenever my kids are in the water, they need a responsible adult with them. If the adults are resting on the beach, the kids need to be nearby building sandcastles!

i think you have to be aware that if you are going to venture into their habitat then you should be careful. Common sense really.
