Research Misconduct?
|
|
I just read an article stating that research misconduct might be more widespread than we are led to believe.
The need to find funding can lead to researches not disclosing who paid for the research and, even worse, researchers might fail to report findings contrary to what their benefactors want to hear.
Do you think studies should be forced to disclose the source of their funding?
Would that information have an impact on how you viewed information contained in a study?

I think it should always be disclosed where funding for studies came from no matter what the nature of the study or how minute the funding may be. This is one of the many problems the FDA is currently facing. The drug companies essentially pay for their own safety approvals. Just look at Vioxx. The only way to have a completely unbiased view is to get funding from someone that has no interest in the outcome of the study.

This was so obvious for a very long time. Researchers are being paid by companies and I doubt if anything negative would be said about that company's product.
You always see contradictions on many studies depending on who is paying. How can these studies be trusted?
Yes, we should know who is paying for the research.

it really doent matter what reasearch is conducted. For as long as its been around people are going to omit what is contradictory.
Normally, when you sign up to help conduct a clicnical study you are given this information. When id id one fro Chromium we were given stacks upon stacks of information on teh who what where when and why. What the peopelwho participate are not given is that information. We are slo given hypothetical outcomes that theya re supposing andheve come up with. theer si more to actually doing one than he public is allowed to know.
