Big Chains Or The Drug Stor Up The Block?
|
|
Which kind of pharmacy do you use, one of the big guys or the small store up the block?
I've been using the same pharmacy my whole life. I knew the first owner and now I know the second owner. It's the small pharmacy up the block.
What I like about it is the fact that the owner knows me and my whole family. I feel as if he genuinely cares about me and my family.
Once when I didn't have health insurance I gave him my prescription for my blood pressure meds and asked him to only give me half. He kind of rolled his eyes and smiled at me.
The next day I went in to pick the pills up he not only gave me the full prescription but only charged me one-third of the price.
I doubt if a big chain would have helped me like that.
What is your pharmacy like?

I don't have any small pharmacies around here. There's only chains: Walmart, CVS and Walgreens. I wish I had a smaller one like I used to use before moving here. The personal service was so much nicer.

I too like the service at the smaller pharmacies but I run across better prices in the bigger chains. Maybe it is the amount they purchase that causes that to be the case.

We don't have a small drug store any more after a bad break in that resulted in lots of stolen prescriptions. They were hanging by a thread anyway. While they were nice enough I get the same level of service from my local CVS pharmacy.

When I was growing up my family used a small local pharmacy and it was nice because the service was so personal. The owner died a few years back and they have since closed up shop. All that is left around here now is the big chains. They are alright but I miss the family kind of atmosphere the little pharmacy up the street had.

I am forced to use the big name ones as no little ones are around so you are stuck with what you can get.

I don't have any little one nearby me either so I don't have much choice. The service I get is OK, but I'm sure that if I had the choice, I'd have preferred to support the Mom and Pop drugstore rather than the big name.

We also don't have a small pharmacy "up the block". There is just Walgreens, Walmart, the Hospital's pharmacy, and the grocery store (Price Cutter/Ramey's/Albertsons) pharmacy. We primarily use the grocery store pharmacy. Even though it is associated with a chain store, it is small and they know us there. The pharmacist actually graduated from high school with my husband! Sometimes they don't have certain prescriptions though and their hours are not as good as some of the others. So occasionally we are forced to use Walmart or Walgreens, especially for emergency type medicines.

I use the local one as I cant be bothered to go miles out of my way and they know me and often advise things rather than just sell me things.
