Better backround checks

In the past ten years or so I have met three different people that told me they worked a as pharmacist and ended up stealing drugs. When I knew this was after the fact of them working there or I would have report them, but shouldn't they check people out a little better before hiring them to take care of the general public?

All I need is someone behind the counter hopped up on something stupid and screw up my Rx and then I die or something....

Are you saying that a better background check would show if they were drug abusers in the past?
Personally, I don't think a better background check is the answer. Some of these people become drug abusers for the first time when they see what easy access they have.

Well, a better background check couldn't solve this problem because there are a lot of people out there who can have perfect background check but be a 'druggie'. The pharmacies could hire a private investigator, get trusted people to watch their cameras at all times, etc.

I also agree with Melanie. Once someone sees a perfect opportunity for easy access they can become curious and become a drug abuser. You never know these days...

There is also such a great temptation by workers in big pharmacies to either abuse drugs themselves or get them to sell illegally after they have the job.

I have heard stories about elderly people who don't have enough money to live, so they actually sell their medication that they get from Medicare back to their pharmacist or people who work there, to resell illegally for a big profit. Both parties can get a lot of money for them.

My sister takes narcotics and is very careful to check the number of pills she gets to make sure the people who work in our pharmacy don't take a few out after the pharmacist counts out her prescription. Our pharmacist even warned us to not let anyone see what medication she's taking and to hide it in our house. He warned us that workers in pharmacies have been known to take down the addresses of people on drugs and sells them to people who rob houses.

Everyone has to be careful when around drugs. Too many people will do anything to either get drugs for themselves to use or resell.
