Subject: | US Government covertly using your child's DNA for science! | |
I got an article forwarded to me by a mom-friend. Apparently when our children are being tested for the March of Dimes tests (PKU, galactosuria, etc) their DNA is also being logged and kept in a database. And the government is allowing researches to use the database without patient or parental consent. They claim it is for finding out more about diseases. I feel the next stage of eugenics around the corner. http://www.infowars.net/articles/april2008/040408DNA.htm |

What can we do? We are in the age of information and now the government knows all about our kids. It's real easy to let conspiracy theories take over our fears, but really, is there anything we can do to stop all this information from being used for any reason that is deemed important? All we can do is hope that decent people won't permit this information to be used for bad reasons. What else can we do? |

wow, that is freaky. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing: they could find cures to diseases faster this way. BUT I think it is a huge issue subverting consent. It wouldn't be that hard to add a consent form to the PKU test. Sure, there are ethical problems with consent forms, but at least it is a step in the right direction! |
