Subject: | NYC Requires Caloric Information | |
I just saw and item on the news saying that NYC will now require fast food outlets to list the calories in their products. I can imagine the panic that might be going through the board rooms of places like McDonald's and other burger joints, but many people will simply ignore the information in favor of pleasure. If this requirement was enacted in your city or town, would you use the caloric information to choose what you will buy, or will you opt to go for pleasure first? |

Fifty-six percent of the population is overweight is quite alarming. New York did a good job. Caloric information to be displayed along the menu will somehow remind its citizen to be more health conscious. I hope this will also be implemented in our city too. Surely, scrutinizing food's caloric information would be a great challenge for me. |

I am in NYC and I think this is a great idea. If people see how many calories are in their favorite foods, they might not order them as often as they do now. Heck, everyone knows that fast food is bad for them, but they eat it anyway. Having the nutritional makeup of your meals doesn't always stop people from doing unhealthy things, but it's good to have the information whether you choose to use it or not. I never go to fast food places, and I hope that the posting of calories will soon be the norm for all restaurants. I like the idea that I would be able to know what to order if I go to any place to eat or for take out. Even if you decide to have extra calories if you're eating out, knowing the count will help you regulate the whole day's worth of calories and help you stick on any health plan you follow. If you already have a heath problem, knowing the nutritional makeup of your meals is a helpful thing to know. I like having as much knowledge as possible. |

I think that is wonderful. It is something we should know and maybe with this information being out there a few people may think twice before stopping in for that burger and fries. |

When 56% is the figure cited as the segment of the population that is overweight, what percentage of those people are over 50? |
