Subject: Coffee Drinkers May Live Longer than Nondrinkers

Well, here we go again. Here's another study that looks good but doesn't mean much.

A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine that followed nearly 128,000 US health professionals for more than two decades says that middle aged people who drink a few cups of coffee a day have a slightly lower risk of dying from heart disease than non drinkers.

It says that women who drank at least two to three cups per day were one-quarter to one-third less likely to die of heart problems or stroke than women who did not drink coffee. But men had to drink at least four to five cups of coffee per day to have that sort of protection.

The study can't say it really is the coffee that protects the heart, or what it is about the coffee that might be helpful.

So, they don't know why, they can't say that it really is the coffee, but they are publishing the study.

Make up your own mind. Here's the full story:

I just wish that these studies might mean something more than just a fast story on the news. Again, people are being paid to find out something and all we get are sound bites.

I take these findings with a large grain of salt. This is what they say today. Tomorrow it will be different. I am a coffee drinker, and intend to stay that way, whether they tell me I'll live longer or not.

I'm with Sierra. I'm really skeptical when it comes to some of the studies I am seeing released to the public. Great for a headline on an off day but in the long run really neither here no there.

I am growing really tired of these so called studies, there is always something new that we should not be or be eating/drinking.

Personally I hate coffee, so never drink it, but I am sure that there are more important lifestyle factors that will determine how long I will live.

the only thing I can say is that it is about time that a habit is considered at least slightly beneficial!

I have no idea what to think but I am with most of ya here on these crazy studies going on lately. Is someone just really bored at their job or what?

Anyone tries to take my cup of joe will have a fight! hehehe I for one don't worry too much about what the latest study is as long as my Dr doesn't have an issue with it then why should I?

Coffee anyone?
