Subject: Colon

I have many friends that disagree on getting checked I think its after the age of 30? How can we stay healthy if we keep overlooking something that might be uncomfy for afew minutes but save us from knowing something bad? Suggestions?

Since your topic is Men's Health, are you talking about getting your prostate examined? That is a very different test than having your colon looked at.

I can't really comment on what men go through to have their prostate examined, other than it is over in a few minutes and can help you a lot to keep healthy.

If you are talking about having your colon examined, then I have had a colonoscopy and it is not very uncomfortable. You really don't feel anything and you are given drugs that keep you occupied so you are pretty much out of it for the length of the test. It is said that you should have this test after the age of fifty.

So I guess that men should really have both tests to keep an eye on keeping their health.

Having a colon exam is a relatively invasive procedure, which is why I think physicians like to err on the side of waiting awhile before recommending that men have it done. Of course if you are having issues that might be related to a colon problem you should talk to your doctor and asked to be examined outside of the recommended window - standards for preventative treatment are not the same for each person.

I think this is definitely something that needs to be checked out on a yearly basis. My hubby has diverticulitis and must get at least one colonoscopy yearly to make sure he isn't about to have an attack. It is quite an invasive exam, but he says he'd rather do that than end up in the hospital again from an unexpected divers attack.

I would much rather be poked and prodded that die from something that with early warning signs can be controled, maybe not cured but still better than nothing right.

My 17 year old son just had a colonoscopy done. He was put to sleep and doesn1t remember any of it. He had to have it done. His butt was sore for about 2 hours but thats it. I`m not so scared now to have one.
