Radiation and prostate cancer

Studies are being done that may prove that radiation may be able to successfully treat cancer returning after surgery. In the past it was commonly believed that radition therapy would not help since the treatment is aimed at the particular diagnosed site.

Well, as much as radiation therapy can really damage you, I bet there are many happy men out there right now. Having seen people in radiation treatment, I have to say it's a far cry from being pleasant, but much better than the alternative.

Aren't there more refined methods of delivering radiation to cancer sites, than there used to be?

Radiation may help many cancers but radiation might not help everyone with the same kind of cancer.

I know many women who have breast cancer and are treated with radiation and chemotherapy and some only have chemo and some only have radiation.

It's up to the oncologist to decide which would help best. There are a lot of factors that have to be considered.
