Daily Multivitamin

I take a daily multivamin. It's called GNC Mega Men.

It contains xxx% and xxxx% of daily values of vitamins. Is overdosing on vitamins bad for you? I am getting more vitamins than my body needs with this vitamin.

Vitamin A if overused can create birth defects, liver damage, bone deformalities, and/or hair loss.

Vitamin D used in excess amounts can lead to kidney stones/damage, internal bleeding, and weak bones.

Excessive vitamin C is the main cause of gastrointestinal problems.

Too much Niacin can cause flushed skin, liver damage, stomach ulcers and high blood sugar.

Also included in daily supplement pills are essential minerals. These can also do harm to the body when excessive amounts are ingested.

Magnesium, found in all foods, is the most dangerous. Too much magnesium results in heart problems, kidney stones/failure, and low blood pressure.

gbyrd is right, overdoing your vitamins and minerals is doing your body more harm than good. If its just a little, your body will pass it, when you are exceeding your daily value by 2 or 3 times more than recommended, you need to cut back.

Too much of a good thing, is not a good thing.

it's likely the ones that are that high are going to simply be filtered out of your system. The ones that are dangerous in high amounts are usually not present in high amounts in vitamins.

magnesium is scary. They give it to women with pre-eclampsia. Everyone I've known who's been on it has stories about how awful it is!

I take a multivitamin aptly called "Men's One Multivitamin" that is made by the Rainbow Light brand. You can purchase them at any WholeFoods store.

They are 100% percent natural and they are easy on your stomach.

I take them between meals because if you don't you will get extremely light headed.

It definitely depends on the vitamin. Its one reason why multivitamins aren't always the best choice. Often times a couple different single vitamins coupled with changed eating patterns work better.

Too much of anything is bad. The overdose will likely give your liver and kidneys too much work to do to regulate your body. I use a one-a-day multivitamin too and just try to eat right as best I can.
