Avoiding the doctor
|
|
Us men have traditionally avoided going to the doctor for regular checkups or even when ill, have put off going in for until we can't bear the pain any longer. I know this is pretty common but I can't say why, even though I'm guilty as charged. Any ideas why?

It's all about the ego, I think. Men don't want to be seen as running to the doctor as soon as they feel a little pain. Another thing I think is that they are afraid of hearing bad news, sometimes even when they suspect that something is wrong they still don't want to go to the doctor.

Ego would be a good guess as any. Most times when I would avoid going it was either due to lack of insurance or not wanting to hear anything bad that would prevent me from taking care of my own.

I've wondered it is the same kind of thing as men not liking to stop and ask for directions.
They are sure they can figure it out if given a little time to do it.
Maybe they think the same thing about any health issue they might have?

I dont know why men are like this, my husband had a recent health scare and could not avoid the doctor or hospital, but I had to be there with him every time to hold his hand!!!

My husband avoids the doctor as much as possible. He found out a few weeks ago that he has a gall stone that needs to be removed but he wont have the surgery done. He has been taking this pill to shrink it(I can't remember the name of the pills)but it is still there. Why are men stubborn?

I feel like my doctor has never met a procedure he doesn't like. No matter how minor the symptom he orders up at least one very expensive test. About 15 months ago I had an episode of what was probably food poisoning. He did an EKG, at CT scan of my lower bowels, blood test, and a thyroid ultrasound. That was beyond nuts. He suggested that we could do more and I said no. My God. Did he just buy a new car or something??

It does not only happen to US men. It is happening to men everywhere. As men always feel they are strong, they will never prolong going to see a doctor even if they are sick. And you can forget about regular checkup. Doing so would means that they are weaklings and cannot take care of themselves.
