Pain Killers
|
|
My sister has terrible pain in her hips from arthritis. Her problem is that no pain killers help her. She has gone to a pain management doc, but all he did was tell her that she has to stop taking the narcotic pain pills! All he talked about were stories about people who were selling their meds or who were addicted to them.
Right now she is taking three different narcotics that don't do much for her. OK, the pain is really bad when she doesn't take them at all, but they don't do that much because she is still in pain.
Hey, they don't even make her sleepy!
Because of all the talk about getting addicted to the drugs, she has experimented with not taking them for a day or so to see if she gets any withdrawal symptoms. She doesn't. In reality she hates taking them because they don't help. Spending money on stuff that leaves you in pain just irks her to no end.
She has tried everything and nothing works. She has tried self hypnosis too but that doesn't work if she stops talking to herself and you can't do that all day, everyday.
We're at our wits end. She also has colon cancer and we are afraid that there will be nothing to help her be comfortable at the end.
Any suggestions?

I am not sure what type of pain she is in, but have you thought about acupuncture or anything along those lines? Some people are not good with pain meds, either too many do nothing or too little do too much. Its a catch 22 so it seems.
