On average

How many different medications are you taking? I ask this as it seems in the past 10-15 years more and more people are on tons of pills. Im not sure if we are just getting smarter about what we need or if not, how much is prescibe when not really needed.

I actually don't take any medication at the moment. I am mildly epileptic and was on medication for that but I quit taking it about 7 years ago. I was tired of living life in a fog.

I think that sometimes people are prescribed medications they don't really need.

I have observed this too. There is a pill or pills for everything and I wonder if this is cocktail of medications is not destroying or overworking our vital organs more than the immediate respite we get from our ailments.

People might be taking more pills than ever before for many reasons. Not all doctors over prescribe.

There might be more pill takers because sensitive new tests now can show that they have something dangerous going on that a medication can help keep under control. More people might be diagnosed with those conditions earlier and therefore the pills are keeping them alive.

More people are getting to be older than ever before, they aren't dying off from all the diseases that used to take so many loved ones. More people are alive to take the pills.

More people are taking better care of themselves today. They are checking that their blood pressure is OK, that their cholesterol is at the right level and if they are not right, then they are changing their diets and are taking pills that will correct that and keep them from dying young.

More people are getting diabetes and arthritis than ever before and the conditions are being discovered earlier than ever before and so pills are taken to keep them well and moving around.

My sister is very ill and in pain. I personally am thrilled that there are pills out there that are keeping her alive and in a little less pain. For some reason, people who don't need medications seem to look down at people who do.

There is no shame in taking multiple medications -- especially if it is keeping you alive and kicking!

Right now I take 4 to manage chronic pain. I just got an Epi-Pen today as a precaution against anaphylactic shock.

Medications?
I take insulin, an allergy pill, a low thyroid pill, a blood pressure pill to protect my kidneys, and ibuprofin I take every day for pain.
My insurance company counts my strips as a medication too.
