I wish they stayed the same

I have a son who has a phobia about taking new medications - he gets very anxious over it for some reason. Anyway, he's on four medications daily and it seems like every month lately one is different. Same medication but different manufacturer so it changes a little. I have to keep convincing him that it is the same medication before he'll take it. I wish they'd stop this.

Same is true about labels. They just want to keep their products as trendy and up to date as possible!

I feel for your son as that is an issue for me too right down to things such as Tylenol or Aleve. There should be some commonality with maybe a simple number on the pill changed to signify a different manufacturer. Phobias like that are not as uncommon as one might think.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about his fear. Your doctor might be able to prescribe pills that look alike -- who knows? The pharmacist might be able to make sure that he uses the same pills. And there is a sticker that the pharmacist can put on the pills that says that the medication might look different but is really the same. No kidding, I just had that sticker put on my pills the other day.

That's a good idea, skatss. I didn't know they had stickers like that. I've tried asking to keep the same pills but I have to take whatever they get in, unfortunately. I'll ask the next time to see if they have those stickers.

Normally if is the same medication it should look the same, at least shape and size wise. Maybe not the color or the writing on it, but anything that you could tell in the dark should be the same. This is done so that drugs really do behave the same no matter the manufacturer and whether they are true or generic. If you have a small pill one time and a big one the next there is a difference and his paranoia is founded.

That is too bad. I really never thought about the packaging or the look of medicine that I have taken.
I do look quick and say- I wonder if this is the same thing.
I would think that manufactures keep the medicines the same.
