Booboo kit
|
|
I have seen these for new parents where its full of anything and everything a new parent will need. Things for fevers, thermometers and so on. I am thinking to get over to the dollar store and get a ton of things for a cheap price and make one myself. I was given a look last night when our house was out of stock for bandaids. *shrug*
Does anyone know of decent priced kits, or is it better to make my own?

I've seen first aid kits but none that were specific to small children (like including the thermometer, etc). I think you'd be better off creating your own as you can then add anything that might be more specific to your family, as well.

Thts what I was thinking of too, right now I have some of the "have to haves" but not all, and of course not bandaids....haha.
I am thinking to get a mid size tool box and just use that to keep everything in one spot.

I have actually seen a couple that are infant specific advertised in parenting/baby magazines, but none of those kits ever seem to have everything you need. Not that I'm sure you can ever have everything you really need without being overly paranoid...

I received one of the infant ones at my baby shower. I really like it, mostly because the container is great. Its roomy and it can be locked with a pad-lock. I would definately add to it though.
Here is what I would recommend to be included (it will either be in a premade one or will need to be added):
A thermometer and/or a binky thermometer. (Best invention ever and it seemed accurate when I tested by taking temp both ways.)
Baby tylenol (or motrin, whatever you prefer).
Diaper rash cream.
Gas drops.
First Aid Book/cards.
Nasal aspirator.
Alcohol swabs (for the umbilical cord).
Teething Pain gel.
Infant toothbrush.
Baby VaporRub.
Vapor Babybath.
Pedialyte powder.
Thats all I can think of. Some of those things were in the kit I got, and some I wished were in it when we needed them in the middle of the night and didn't have them!
Do get a kit that can be locked though. If you make your own, I would recommend buying a small tool-box or similar box that can be locked with a padlock or other secure lock for when baby isn't much of a baby anymore!

I think making one is best and I personally use a small, cheap tackle box. It has lots of nice little places and you can really pack them full. You can put a couple of pennies and some medical tape for bee stings (it works) along with the normal assorted medications. I would also put in some Benadryll just in case of an allergic reaction. Just make sure if you put any medications in that you keep them fresh and watch the expiration dates.
