Addiction to your medication

I have a friend that takes xanax. Among other drugs that I have no idea what they are. I don`t know her really well. Anyway she has two different doctors giving her Xanax and she gets them at two different Pharmacies. I told her she gonna get caught cause thats illegal. She always runs out because she takes too many. Somehow she gets the doctors to give her more. I think she is gonna overdose one of these days. Sometimes she tries to get me to give her one of my valium, but I won`t. She cries and cries. I will not be a party to and addict. My meds are for me, not to share with others.

I always thought that pharmacies had a database to check for any RX's that have been done recently? I know someone like that who has even asked her family to fake a pain to get pain killers. We need to really take care of our close ones like this, but not in the way they are asking.

Sounds like this friend is already out of control and needs professional help. Drug addiction is a scary thing. I'm surprised though that she's managed to bamboozle the doctors and the pharmacies into giving her more than is good for her.

That does sound like a problem, and frankly, I'd be calling the pharmacy and tipping them off. And her doctors, if you know who they are. Sometimes in order to protect the ones we love we have to hurt them, in this case outing her to her doctors.

When I first met her she wanted my doctors name and I gave it to her. After I found out what she was doing I told my doctor about her. I wanted to tell her doctor but I would feel like a fink. I know it would probably help her in the long run, I just can`t bring myself to do that.

This woman needs help, but I'm not sure you can be the one to help her, and the system does not give them the help they need. In many ways the system is as cruel as the drug addiction itself

Going to different doctors to get multiple prescriptions is usually the way that you can tell that someone has a problem with their drugs.

If talking to this woman doesn't get her to get herself some help, I don't really see that you can help her in other ways. She has to want to help herself. You can't do it for her.

If you do tell her doctor, she can just find another one who will give her the prescriptions she wants. If you tell a pharmacy, you might just get her into more trouble than she needs right now, legally.

Try talking to her again. Explain that she is endangering her health and her freedom. Keep talking to her. You are being a great friend!

Addiction medication is something that I have even seen more of these days and I look for that trend to continue. It is a shame, but it is happening.
