Subject: | More Psychics than Psychiatrists? | |
Ok, this is just plain sad. I work with a disabled adult, and have been trying to find him a new Psychiatrist to go to. I ran out of names for Docs, so I decided to look in the phone book for some help. I live in an average town, about 80,000 people. I looked in the yellow pages and there were three times as many listing under Psychics than there were under Psychiatrists! And my town is considered a "white-collar", high Dr-patient ratio place! Egads! What is this country coming to when the Psychiatrists won't list their numbers, so all you have left are Psychics? |

You are right, it is just plain sad, perhaps you could call one of the many psychics and ask them to help find you a psychiatrist!! No seriously though, it is terrible. |

Maybe it isn't so much that the psychiatrists in your town don't want to be listed but that there might not be as many psychiatrists as psychics open for business. |

Have you tried just looking online with the phone books published here? I have found things not listed in the physical book before but are online. |

These days psychiatrists hardly do any therapy at all. They do 15 minute "med check" appts once a month and the patient sees a counselor or therapist (like me) for the therapy. A psychiatrist can see as many as 50 people a day doing this and charge as much as $200 per. Not hard to see why they do so. |
