Water consumption

How much water should we drink in a day? I've heard that you can actually drink too much water, that it can dilute the sodium content in the blood and cause problems. Is 8 8oz glasses the right amount?

My midwife told me while I was pregnant that a good rule of thumb is to divide your weight in half, and that number is the number of ounces you should consume in a day. So, a person weighing 140lbs should drink 70 ounces of water; and a person weighing 180 should drink 90 ounces.

Most people will never drink too much water as you'd have to consume gallons to cause a problem if you're healthy. Certain illnesses can necessitate a fluid restriction, like CHF, but it's not a concern for the average person.

Growing up I always heard 6-8 glasses of water per day. An 8 ounce glass if I remember correctly. If this is true, I'm lucky if I get 4 glasses a day.

It's safe to drink 8 glasses of water a day -- not counting other drinks like coffee and soda. It's true that most people don't even drink that much.

I don't understand why people love to repeat that it might be bad to drink too much water. It's not like it's an easy thing to do.

I heard that halving your weight and drinking that amount of water in ounces is the best for losing weight.

I did that as I lost weight and I spent most of my free time running to the bathroom. It took up a lot of time -- but I did lose weight well.

Well, it is bad to drink too much water thats why they say it. Have you ever heard of water intoxication? It is very possible. Someone was dared (on radio) to drink gallons of water to win a contest, no one knew anything about water intoxication and she was hospitalized. This mostly happens with babies drinking too many bottles of pure water a day or when their water is not mixed proper with their formula. It can happen in adults as well, but its not always the amount you drink as it is the time span in how quickly you are.

I heard about that it was a terrible thing. All she wanted to do was win a game system for her kids. I personally don't see how it is possible to drink 6-8 glasses of water. I've tried to do it but I have to keep running to the bathroom.

I think that it's so difficult to calculate how much water you consume, because no matter what you drink, every beverage contains water.

I stick to drink water at every possible moment when I am thirsty. Water and milk pretty much make up my beverage diet. ;)

Water is definitely very important to our health. The problem lies in whats in the water and in some cases what is not in the water we drink. A few months ago I was introduced to ionized alkaline water and for the first time since leaving the farm in 1961, I am drinking good tasting healthy water and loving it. I took the leap and purchased a water appliance, Athena by IonWays and now my family comes to my house to fill their water jugs everyday. www.IonWays.com/Blessings Do the research for yourself. Dr Don Colbert, Dr. Robert Young and many others have done studies and written books about the pH effect. Another good read is Reverse Aging by Sang Wang.
