Surgery Day Approaches
|
|
It's now five days till I have surgery to remove my gall bladder. On the one hand I can't wait because I am sick of living in fear of my food, sick of the extreme pain of attacks, and looking forward to food that tastes good again.
I wasn't a typical candidate for getting gallstones, at 30, 170lbs, and with a cholesterol level of 111. I work out three or four times a week. So I am a bit miffed about it.
Now that the time is approaching, how can I prepare for surgery? What will help me recover quickly?

I know a couple of women who had this surgery. One was a grandmother and one was a young mother just a little older than I am. Both were generally in good health and both recovered quite quickly. I hope it goes very well for you. Good luck.

The best thing you can do is to follow the doctor's instructions for before pre-surgery and post-surgery. So many either start to feel better and then over do, or otherwise not follow recommendations, and then they end up taking longer overall the recover. Good luck with everything.

Everyone I've ever known who has had this surgery has recovered very quickly. I recommend discussing your concern with your doctor. I'm sure they can give you the advice you need.

Follow your doctor's advice faithfully and report anything out of the ordinary. From what I understand, you should be back to your usual self in short order. All the best.

Amazingly the recommendations were few. No drugs that cause blood thinning before the surgery (which does after all have terrible proximity to the liver!) and no vitamin E. After, you can eat what you want when you feel you can, and I was advised that I can follow my own body when it comes to activity.
It all seemed rather unscientific...
