Salt Consumption
|
|
I saw this story about our salt consumption on the news today. Pretty interesting. For example, the saltiest breakfast would be an Arby's Sausage Gravy Biscuit. The saltiest dessert would be Atlanta Bread Company Raspberry Scone.
You should check this story out as it lists many more "saltiest" foods and talks about how little salt we should be consuming.

Most of us should be consuming much smaller amounts of salt but not me. In fact, a few years ago I went to the ER with chest pains and they found I was LOW on sodium. I had to take salt tablets for two weeks and my doctor recommended I eat something salty every day. I started eating low fat pop corn every evening and haven't had that problem again. Interesting post!

I have a similar problem, with low sodium. It was causing me cramps severe enough that I tore a muscle in my thigh and was out of training for a year.

I try to limit myself with salt. Many people in my family are saltaholics and I was told it would be bad to get into. Not sure what type, but I just headed the warning I guess.

It's true that not everyone has to watch their salt intake. Some people are sensitive to it and it affects their blood pressure and they have to limit it. And if you find that you get bloated easily, then you need to not eat as much.
When I watch cooking shows I am always amazed at the amount of salt they use. When I cook I never use salt (unless it's needed to make a chemical reaction in the food) I only put salt on the table to use if the food really needs it after it's cooked.
I guess I got out of the salt habit years ago when the news first came out to not use salt. Because I only use it to taste after the food is cooked, a box of salt usually lasts me for years and years!

I'm another one that doesn't use much salt. When I was pregnant with my first child, I cut the salt because my family has a history of fluid retention. Fortunately, I am not one to have that issue as it turns out. But I guess I got out of the salt habit at that time. I do get cravings for salty snacks though...I eat tons of pretzels.

I've always been careful about salting my kids food, I let them salt after I cook, so that it is too taste. Because I've always cooked unsalted, they don't go for salty foods. It's worked for us.

The saltiest "healthy" food was a chicken platter dish with 2,780 mg sodium. Holy cow. I don't usually use much salt, so that just seems insane to me.

I've had problems with low sodium and low blood pressure in the past. My midwives make me eat chips everyday when I'm pregnant or I get too low. Some people are sensitive, some are not.
