Lip gloss and Cancer
|
|
This article is claiming that the lip gloss that are non-SPF can possibly increase the risk on one getting cancer. These lip gloss they say, is similar to wearing nothing on the lips thus leaving the lips open to the direct sun rays.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the link as I hadn't heard about this before.
It's making me wonder if my favorite Chapstick has spf in it. I'll have to check.

The article is about lip cancer? Oh great, now we have to worry about lip cancer. I never thought of that cancer, specifically.
Good article. All we have to do to protect ourselves from lip cancer is to keep out of the sun and use sunblock lip cover. And eat fruit.
It couldn't hurt.

I've never heard of getting cancer from lip gloss! Thats odd. I don't wear lipgloss often, I usually just wear ChapStick, which I'm pretty sure has SPF on it so I think I'm okay :)

I very rarely wear lip gloss and when I do I never check to see if there is SPF in it. just another thing for women to worry about.

Lip cancer is no different from any other melonoma I would think. There are numerous lip products with sunscreen in them these days just like foundations. I always wear lip gloss with spf in it, or use a large hat if I simply need to wear makeup for some function.

I think some will take this in a bit misleading way, though. It's not that lip gloss is 'causing' cancer. It's that because it doesn't have spf in it, it isn't 'preventing' the uv rays from getting in and then they compare it to putting baby oil on to help tan. If nothing else, just put on spf chapstick and then toss on a light coat of your lip gloss if you want...it makes it last longer anyway because your lips won't soak in the gloss immediately.

Now that is just not a place I would even associate cancer with. It's these things that there is little public awareness about that should really get more exposure no matter how minimal the risk.
