Drink Up!

The average person sweats one quart of water during one hour of vigorous exercise, and that's just when the temperature is average. In the summer it's even more!

So now is the time to start making sure that you drink that water.

Start drinking 2-3 cups of water 2-3 hours before you are going to exercise. Then drink another cup immediately before you start exercising.

Muscle movement depends on how hydrated you are, so if muscles are dry, they will not work as well. As a result, your workout will not be as productive as you would like.

A good rule of thumb is to drink one cup of water every 15-20 minutes. It's recommended you drink another 2-3 cups within two hours after you have finished. Then drink water regularly afterwards.

In the summer, even when not exercising, make certain to keep drinking. Don't wait until you are thirsty. You will lose a lot of water in the heat and for optimal health and productivity in doing those everyday chores, keep drinking water.

Good advice. Cramps are not fun.

Not only muscle movement but your risk of strain or damage is greater. Many people are borderline dehydrated on a daily basis and then wonder why they can't concentrate or function as well as they should.

I was unaware that dehydration could be part of the cause for cramps. I was aware however of our water needs-thanks for the timely reminder.

Let me add to this a little bit.

Drinking water is the best and laziest way to lose weight. So, if you are overweight, try drinking lots and lots of water and see what happens to your body and complexion. You will become lighter and your skin will become clearer.

However, I have noticed that drinking lots of water does not work with everybody. My mother, for example, says she feels sick if she drinks too much water. But, I just can't survive without drinking lots and lots of it.

Okay let me be the oddball out here and ask if you are drinking that much, are you still going to the bathroom at a normal rate. Even when I work out and drink more, I still end up taking more trips to the bathroom.

I probably drink close to if not more than a gallon of water a day. Water is my favorite drink and I'll choose a glass of water over a soda 99 times out of 100. My wife doesn't like water because when she drinks it she says it just makes her thirstier. I tell her it is because her body is craving it.

I drink water a lot, even while I was pregnant and now I have to be telling my toddler, no more. He loves water and is always asking for more.

I need to start drinking water on a regular basis. I get chronic headaches related to dehydration but can I think to pick up a glass of water? Of course not I must be a glutton for punishment.

I do try and drink a lot of water when I am exercising and when I am not. I bring a water bottle with me when I am walking but the only thing I hate is that I have to pee all the time.

Yeah I know aside from headaches if I am not keeping up my water intake that I get charlie horses that are so much worse than those I might get when I am not dehydrated.
